About the Author: Lawrence J. King draws inspiration from his eclectic background. He is an Army Veteran, Marshal Arts Instructor, author, public speaker, film maker and radio host. With the U.S. army he lived in Europe from 1979 – 1994, during which he taught Tae Kwon Do to the men and women of the Armed Forces. Linda Tate, author of the critically acclaimed Power in the Blood: A Family Narrative (Ohio University Press 2009), will discuss the perils, pitfalls, and pleasures of writing about real people (especially living people who are also relatives!). If you've ever wanted to write from your direct life experience but wondered if you could really be honest, this is the workshop for you. Linda will also discuss the research and writing she did over a 14-year period to craft this multigenerational saga, which was a finalist for the 2010 Colorado Book Award and the winner of the 2010 award in creative nonfiction from the Colorado Authors’ League.

About the Author: Linda is the author of A Southern Weave of Women: Fiction of the Contemporary South and the editor of Conversations with Lee Smith. In support of Power in the Blood, she was a Rockefeller Foundation Humanities Fellow at Marshall University’s Center for the Study of Ethnicity and Gender in Appalachia. Linda taught at Shepherd University in West Virginia for fifteen years and was named the 2003 West Virginia Professor of the Year. Most recently, she was on the faculty of the writing program at the University of Denver. She lives in Wild Sage Co-housing in North Boulder.
